TOKYO - Full Day 1/Night 2
Saturday November 23rd.
Morning - Asakusa area - Senso JI Temple, Asakusa amusement park and surrounding streets.
Asakusa retains the vibe of an older Tokyo, with traditional craft shops and street-food stalls along Nakamise Street near the ancient Senso-ji temple. Mid-19th century Hanayashiki amusement park and thrill rises and cafes, while riverside Kuritsu Sumida Park hosts regular festivals and firework displays. Casual izakaya bars dot the neighbourhood, along yakitori restaurants serving grilled meat skewers and beer.
Group Lunch - CIBI - 113-022 Tokyo, Bunko City, Sendagi.
Afternoon - Sendagi Streets. Exploring the original neighborhood streets of Sendagi as well as the small traditional artisan shops and eateries.
Evening - Group Dinner at Shibuya followed by drinks. Golden Gai consists of six tiny alleys - much too narrow to even get a small car down - lined by almost two hundred tiny bars - more than you would find in the whole of most Australian cities. The buildings are ramshackle, and the alleys dimly lit–but bear in mind that Tokyo has one of the lowest crime rates of any big city, so the whole area is much safer than appearances suggest. Each building is only a few feet wide and built almost touching the one next door. Many have a steep set of stairs leading to a separate establishment, or a tiny flat, upstairs. The bars advertise themselves with an eclectic mix of artwork and enigmatic logos–ranging from cats and acoustic guitars to painted lips and nudes–adding to their mystique, and making the passer-by wonder what’s to be found inside.
