Event Overview

Join Akademie Instructor Bill Green for an exclusive Location Portraiture Workshop. Bill will help you develop this highly useful skillset – images of people in their personal working environment are very rewarding to shoot and can have a lot more depth than merely capturing a head and shoulders portrait.

You will have the opportunity to photograph Stephen Hogwood, a blacksmith who operates the 1910 Ironworks in Wildes Meadow, near Bowral, about 2 hours drive south of Sydney. As you can see from the photos, not only is Stephen highly photogenic himself, but his shed and its surrounds are rich with photographic opportunities too. We have exclusive access to this location for the day and for this location we will be limiting places to a very small group size of six (6) only so everyone gets the opportunity to shoot their own images at their own pace.

There will be opportunities to shoot interiors empty and occupied, portraits of Stephen posed and working. Mostly you will be working in relatively low light situations, but Bill will discuss and demonstrate using some added fill and accent lighting, and in the late afternoon the forge itself creates its own warm glow. There is also a lot of scope to make excellent images of the outside environment – who can resist sheds full of rusty ‘trash and treasure’.

A good lunch is included. Bill Green will email guests more detailed instructions nearer the time.
