Print like a Pro!
How do you get a good print? Easy, start with a good image!
The best possible print of a poor image will remain just that: poor. On the other hand, a great image printed well will just ‘sing’.
The secret of getting great prints is that there is no special secret, no magic bullet for getting perfect prints. No, it’s far more about building a repeatable, controllable and consistent method for outputting your images using the best equipment available and creating a match between what you see on the screen and what you see coming out of the printer.
If you can achieve this then you can make your post-processing judgements based on the screen itself (Soft Proofing) and then expect a 95% match to the resulting image on paper. If there was a ‘secret’ to printing then this would be it.
Printing is essentially a repeatable and technical process. What it does not take into account is the quality of the image data – the tonal relationships within the image, the sharpening, the subject matter etc. This requires some post-proccessing in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop or similar.
In this workshop Nick Rains will explain how to take your raw image capture through necessary post-processing steps through to making the final print. Almost all of this can be done in Lightroom, but there are a few advanced techniques using Photoshop which will be discussed.
