Akademie Instructors are chosen for their depth of practical experience and photographic knowledge as well as their presentation skills. All are highly skilled in their field of speciality and all are working photographers who still undertake assignments and/or run successful businesses.
Nick Rains is the Principal Instructor for Leica Akademie Australia. He brings thirty years of broad experience as a professional photographer to his role, and he remains a working photographer, shooting assignments around Australia and the rest of the world.
In 1983, Mark Strachan began working as a cadet photographer for the Herald and Weekly Times Newspaper Group. His first big assignment was covering the ‘Ash Wednesday’ bushfires that devastated the Southern part of Australia and made worldwide news. These monochromatic images established him as a gritty story-teller under pressure.
Jesse Marlow is based in Melbourne, Australia. His works are held in public and private collections across Australia and the world. In 2003, he published his first book of photographs: Centre Bounce: Football from Australia’s Heart, (Hardie Grant Books). Images from Centre Bounce have been exhibited and published extensively, both in Australia and internationally
