On February 10 2019 Leica Akademie Australia was proud to host a one-off workshop by celebrity photographer Manfred Baumann. The twelve guests enjoyed a day of anecdotes and action as Manfred talked about his experiences as a Hollywood photographer and then demonstrated his techniques using the studio at the Leica Store in Melbourne. Street Photography with Jesse Marlow

Eagle-eyed Jesse Marlow hosted a street photography workshop on February 14th in Melbourne – in his own words “It was an excellent day with perfect weather and everyone was into it.” Josh from Michaels Cameras came along too and shot some photos of the group as well as some street shots of his own, no doubt following Jesse’s teachings! Samford Museum Workshop

Saturday June 27th saw a small group of keen photographers arriving at Samford Museum where Geoff Harris, the Museum President, was waiting to let us in. We had booked the entire location for six hours during which we would be free to go pretty much anywhere we wanted without having to worry about getting in other visitors’ way or even leaving bags full of valuable camera gear lying around. We also had the benefit of having two of the stalwart Museum volunteers, Stan and Ray, posing as Blacksmiths and they manfully kept the forge going, kicking up sparks and flames, whilst we shot our photos.

After a convivial lunch at the Flying Nun cafe across the road we got back into it and spent the rest of our time shooting the school room memorabilia and working with some subtle flash illumination to mimic the effects of late afternoon sun.
